Syros Island National Airport "Demetrius Vikelas" (IATA: JSY, ICAO: LGSO) is a small yet vital air gateway serving the island of Syros, the administrative capital of the Cyclades island group in Greece. Its primary function is to provide a quick and reliable connection to the Greek mainland, complementing the island's extensive ferry network and supporting both tourism and local administrative travel.

Opened in 1991, the airport is named after Demetrius Vikelas, a prominent Greek businessman and writer who was the first president of the International Olympic Committee. Its history is that of a purpose-built regional facility designed to enhance accessibility to this important Cycladic hub. The airport is located just two kilometers south of the main town, Ermoupoli, making it exceptionally convenient for travelers. Access to and from the terminal is primarily handled by taxi, which can be found waiting for arriving flights, or by pre-booked private transfers and rental cars. The journey to Ermoupoli typically takes less than ten minutes by car.

Operations at Syros Airport are almost exclusively domestic, with scheduled flights connecting to Athens International Airport (ATH) throughout the year. The primary carriers serving this route are Aegean Airlines (operated by its subsidiary, Olympic Air) and Sky Express. While the airport has the capacity for small charter flights, scheduled international services are not a feature. Passenger traffic is modest and highly seasonal, peaking during the summer tourist months. The airport's single runway and compact apron are designed to accommodate turboprop aircraft, which are standard for these short-haul domestic routes.

Reflecting its size and operational focus, the airport's facilities are basic but functional. It consists of a single, small terminal building that houses all operations. Inside, travelers will find check-in desks, a baggage claim area, and a simple departure lounge. Amenities are limited to a small café/snack bar for refreshments and restroom facilities. There are no currency exchange services, duty-free shops, or airline lounges. For travelers, the compact nature of the airport ensures a swift and straightforward experience. It is generally recommended to arrive approximately one hour before a domestic departure, which provides ample time for check-in and security procedures. Due to the limited on-site transport options, arranging a taxi or rental car in advance, particularly during peak season, is a practical measure.
