🇬🇷 Larissa Air Base

Larissa Air Base (LGLR (LRA)) is a military airfield located approximately 3 to 6 kilometers east of Larissa city in the Thessaly region of central Greece. It is situated at coordinates 39°39′01″N 22°27′55″E, with an elevation of 74 meters (243 feet) above mean sea level.

• Type of Facility: Larissa Air Base is a Hellenic Air Force (HAF) base.
• Runway Information: The base features two asphalt-surfaced runways. The primary runway (08R/26L) is 3,267 meters long and 45 meters wide, while a secondary runway (08C/26C) is 3,639 meters long and 45 meters wide. Other sources mention slightly different lengths for the runways, for example, 11,941 x 148 ft (approximately 3639 x 45 meters) for runway 08/26 and 08C/26C, and 9,711 x 98 ft (approximately 2960 x 30 meters) for 08R/26L.
• Known Uses: It serves as the primary base for the Hellenic Air Force's 110th Combat Wing, which operates F-16C/D Block 52+ multirole fighter aircraft, as well as various drones, including Heron I and Pegasus II. The base also houses the National Air Operations Center. Since the late 2010s, the U.S. Air Force has publicly used the base for MQ-9 Reaper drone operations, supporting NATO activities in the region.
• Historical Significance: Larissa Air Base was built in 1912 and served as a commercial airport until 1997 when it transitioned to exclusive military use. The 110th Combat Wing traces its origins to 1954, with the base formally established in 1934.
