North Las Vegas Metropolitan International Airport (IATA: VGT, ICAO: KVGT) serves Las Vegas, US.

North Las Vegas Airport (VGT), also known as KVGT, is a public-use airport located in North Las Vegas, Nevada, approximately 3 miles northwest of downtown Las Vegas. It is owned by the Clark County Commission and operated by the Clark County Department of Aviation.

Type of Facility and Operations: VGT is primarily a general, business, and corporate aviation airport. It serves as the main airport in the Las Vegas area for general aviation and scenic tours, which helps Harry Reid International Airport (KLAS) focus on airline flights. The airport has three asphalt runways: 7/25 (5,005 feet), 12R/30L (5,001 feet), and 12L/30R (4,203 feet). It operates under Class D airspace, which underlies the larger Las Vegas Class B airspace. The airport also hosts various helicopter operators, including the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Notable Features or History: Opened on December 7, 1941, as Sky Haven Airport, its co-founders left to enlist in the Army Air Corps on the same day due to the attack on Pearl Harbor. In 1968, Hughes Tool Company purchased the airport. The Clark County Department of Aviation has invested over $40 million in improvements, leading to its recognition as an Air Elite Diamond Service location in 2019. VGT is known for its proximity to downtown Las Vegas, the Fremont Street Experience, Area 15, and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Current Status: North Las Vegas Airport is the second-busiest public-use government airport in the Las Vegas area and the third busiest in Nevada. As of 2019, it averaged over 176,000 aircraft operations annually, with 59% being local general aviation and 29% transient general aviation. The airport is open 24 hours, with the FBO operating from 05:00 to 22:30 year-round. The control tower operates from 06:00 to 21:00 from April to September and from 06:00 to 20:00 from October to March. Pilots are advised of "hot spots" and wrong surface landing risks due to the parallel runways and their close spacing.
