Beaver Island Airport (KSJX) serves as a critical transportation link for Beaver Island, the largest island in Lake Michigan, located in Charlevoix County, Michigan. Operations at Beaver Island Airport consist exclusively of general aviation and scheduled air taxi services. There are no major commercial airlines or international flights. Two main operators, Island Airways and Fresh Air Aviation, provide regular flights primarily to and from Charlevoix Municipal Airport (KCVX) on the mainland. These flights are conducted using small, propeller-driven aircraft, offering a brief and scenic journey over Lake Michigan.

The facilities at KSJX are modest and functional, reflecting its small scale. The airport features a single, compact terminal building with a basic waiting area, restrooms, and check-in counters for the resident airlines. Travelers should not expect amenities such as restaurants, retail shops, or extensive lounges. The airfield itself consists of two runways: one paved and one turf. The experience is streamlined and personal, without the long lines or complex security procedures found at larger airports.

For travelers, planning ahead is key. It is highly recommended to arrange ground transportation in advance, as options include a limited number of taxis, pre-booked rental cars, or shuttle services. Arriving 30 to 45 minutes prior to a scheduled departure is generally sufficient, but passengers should always confirm timing with their specific airline. For those with connecting flights on major carriers, travel plans must include the short flight to Charlevoix, followed by ground transportation to a larger regional airport like Pellston Regional Airport (PLN) or Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) in Traverse City.
