Approximately late 2013 to early 2014. The associated military division completed its relocation in February 2014, after which the land was transferred for redevelopment.
The heliport was closed as part of the complete relocation of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Army's 35th Infantry Division. The base, which occupied a large, prime area within the city of Jeonju, was moved to a new facility in the nearby Imsil County. This relocation was part of a long-term agreement between the Ministry of National Defense and the city of Jeonju to facilitate major urban redevelopment, connect disconnected parts of the city, and address a housing shortage.
The site of the former heliport and the entire military base has been completely redeveloped into a large-scale residential and commercial area known as 'Jeonju Eco City' (전주 에코시티). The area now consists of numerous high-rise apartment complexes, parks, schools, and commercial infrastructure. There are no visible remnants of the former military heliport or base.
The heliport, identified in some aviation databases as C 719 Heliport (KR-1097), was the aviation facility for the ROK Army's 35th Infantry Division. It was operated by the division's aviation battalion (206th Aviation Battalion). The heliport was critical for the division's operational readiness, supporting missions such as tactical troop and equipment transport, reconnaissance, command and control flights, and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC). The 35th Division is responsible for the defense of the Jeollabuk-do province, and this heliport was a key logistical and tactical asset for over 60 years at that location.
None. The site has been permanently and fully redeveloped for civilian use. The military unit and its assets, including its aviation capabilities, have been successfully relocated to a new, modern base in Imsil County, making any prospect of reopening the old heliport impossible.
