Palm Beach International Airport (PBI)

Palm Beach International Airport (PBI), designated KPBI by aviation authorities, serves as the primary air gateway to Palm Beach County, the Treasure Coast, and the greater South Florida region. Located just 2.5 miles west of downtown West Palm Beach and a short drive from the island of Palm Beach, it provides a convenient and often less congested travel experience compared to other regional airports. Travelers can access the airport directly from Interstate 95 and Southern Boulevard, with rental cars, taxis, and app-based ride services being the most common forms of ground transportation.

Originally opened in 1936 as Morrison Field, the airport played a critical role during World War II as a U.S. Army Air Forces base used for training and as a staging point for Allied aircraft flying to Europe. It transitioned to a commercial facility after the war and the current terminal was dedicated in 1988. Today, PBI is a large international airport that handles millions of passengers annually. It offers extensive domestic service, primarily to cities in the Northeast, Midwest, and South, with seasonal international flights to Canada and the Caribbean. Major operating airlines include Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, American Airlines, United Airlines, and Southwest Airlines, alongside a significant presence of private and corporate aviation.

The airport features a single, user-friendly terminal building with three concourses: A, B, and C. Its clean, modern design and straightforward layout make navigation simple for travelers. Amenities include a variety of retail stores, newsstands, and a diverse selection of dining options ranging from quick-service cafes to full-service restaurants. For eligible passengers, airline-specific lounges like the Delta Sky Club and American Admirals Club are available, as well as a common-use Primeclass Lounge. For a smooth departure, arriving 90 minutes to two hours prior to a domestic flight is typically sufficient, though more time is advisable during peak travel periods like winter and spring break. The consolidated terminal design ensures that all gates are accessible from a single security checkpoint. All rental car services are conveniently located on the first level of the terminal, within walking distance of baggage claim. Designated pickup areas for taxis and ride-sharing services are clearly marked outside the arrivals level.
