Moffett Federal Airfield (IATA: NUQ, ICAO: KNUQ, FAA LID: NUQ), also known as Moffett Field, is a joint civil-military airport located in Santa Clara County, California, between northern Mountain View and northern Sunnyvale.

Type of facility and operations: Moffett Federal Airfield is a public/military airport. It is operated by NASA Ames Research Center, with Google's subsidiary Planetary Ventures leasing 1,000 acres of the property for 60 years since 2014. Notable features or history: The airfield was originally commissioned as NAS Sunnyvale in 1933 and renamed Moffett Field later that year after Rear Admiral William A. Moffett. It was a US Navy facility until 1994 when it was turned over to NASA Ames Research Center.

Moffett Field is home to several historic structures:

  • Hangar One: Constructed in 1931, it is one of the world's largest freestanding structures, covering 8 acres. It is a Naval Historical Monument and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

It has occasional air traffic, averaging 5-10 flights per day. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) is relocating its West Coast science center to the Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, with full relocation scheduled by the end of 2024. Hangar Three was demolished in stages beginning in Summer 2024 due to being cost-prohibitive to repair.
