Manassas Regional Airport/Harry P. Davis Field (HEF/KHEF) is a public general aviation airport serving the Washington D.C. region. It is located five miles southwest of Manassas, Virginia, and 28 miles west-southwest of Washington D.C.,. HEF is the largest general aviation airport in Virginia, primarily handling transient and local general aviation aircraft, as well as law enforcement, military, medivac, and flight school operations.
The airport's history dates back to 1930 when the Manassas Town Council proposed a landing strip. It officially opened on June 8, 1932, and was named after Mayor Harry P. Davis. Due to increased activity and development, the airport moved to its current location in 1963, opening as Manassas Municipal Airport in 1964. Since then, it has undergone significant expansion, including the construction of a 5700' parallel runway (16L/34R) and Taxiway Bravo in 1997, and a new Main Terminal Building.
Currently, HEF is an operational airport with an airport traffic control tower (0630L-2230L). It features parallel runways 16L/34R and 16R/34L. The airport is within the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area Special Flight Rules Area (DC SFRA), requiring pilots to complete an online SFRA course. It is a significant contributor to the local economy, with an estimated impact of over $375 million in 2018.
