The airport ceased regular operations in the early 1990s, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It fell into complete disuse throughout the 1990s and early 2000s as its infrastructure deteriorated.
The closure was primarily due to economic reasons. With the collapse of the USSR, the centralized state funding for the vast network of small, regional airfields disappeared. The airfield's main purpose, supporting state-run agricultural aviation (crop dusting), was discontinued. The newly formed national airline of Kyrgyzstan did not have the financial resources to maintain and operate such a small, local airfield.
The airport is completely abandoned. The single asphalt runway is still clearly visible from satellite imagery but is in a severe state of disrepair, with numerous cracks, potholes, and vegetation growth. There are no remaining terminal buildings or hangars. The site is not used for any aviation activities and is instead used by local residents for non-aviation purposes, such as a makeshift road for driving practice and potentially for drying agricultural products like hay or beans.
Locally known as Kirovskoye Airfield (Аэродром Кировское), named after the former Soviet-era name of the nearby village of Kyzyl-Adyr. It was a typical Soviet local airfield built to serve the agricultural needs of the Talas Region, a major farming area. Its primary function was as a base for agricultural aircraft, most notably the Antonov An-2, which performed crop dusting, seeding, and aerial spraying for the collective farms (kolkhozes) in the valley. It may have also supported occasional light passenger or cargo transport, connecting the local area with the regional capital, Talas, and other towns within the Kyrgyz SSR under the Aeroflot system.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening this airfield. The focus for air transport development in the region is on the larger, primary Talas Airport (ICAO: UAFW). The cost to refurbish the runway and build the necessary modern infrastructure is prohibitive, and there is no economic or strategic demand to justify reactivating a secondary airfield in this location. It is expected to remain abandoned.
