Astoria Regional Airport (KAST (AST)) is a joint civil-military public airport situated in Warrenton, Oregon, approximately three miles southwest of Astoria. It is owned by the Port of Astoria and serves as an accessible general aviation airport for the north Oregon coast.
Type of Facility and Operations: The airport functions primarily as a general aviation facility, open to the public. It is also a vital operational base for the United States Coast Guard Sector Columbia River, which conducts search and rescue, law enforcement, and environmental protection missions utilizing HH-60 helicopters. The airport features two asphalt runways and provides aviation fuel, including Avgas 100LL and Jet A. While it operates daily, it does not have a control tower.
Notable Features or History: Astoria Regional Airport was activated in July 1938. A significant historical feature is its role as the permanent home of Coast Guard Air Station Astoria since February 1966, an establishment that originated in August 1964 at Tongue Point Naval Station before relocating. Although it previously offered commercial airline flights, most recently by SeaPort Airlines until 2010, the airport currently has no scheduled airline services.
Current Status: As of recent data (year ending September 17, 2019), the airport recorded 38,721 aircraft operations, with general aviation accounting for 59% and military operations for 36%. The airport continues to offer fuel services, with Avgas self-serve fueling available 24/7. Adjacent to the airport is a 45-acre industrial park designated for industrial development or logistics warehouse capacity.
