The airport covers 150 acres (61 ha) at an elevation of 790 feet (241 m) above mean sea level. It features one asphalt runway, designated 6/24, measuring 3,471 by 60 feet (1,058 x 18 m). There is no control tower. Notable remarks about the airport include steep rock ledges beyond both runway ends, a susceptibility to gusting and frequent crosswinds, and the presence of deer and birds in the airport vicinity.
Greenwood Lake Airport is utilized for general aviation activities, including flight training, aircraft maintenance, and skydiving. The airport has been open since June 1960. Historically, in the early 1970s, it was temporarily known as Nairobi Airport and offered aerial tours for the adjacent Jungle Habitat theme park. A distinctive feature of the airport is a historic Lockheed Constellation aircraft (N9412H) that was acquired in 1977 and has been integrated into the terminal building, currently housing an office for Sky Training LLC. An earlier, unrelated "rocket plane" mail experiment was attempted from the shores of Greenwood Lake in 1936, prior to the airport's establishment.
