Onishi Private Airfield

Economic redevelopment. The land was repurposed for a more profitable commercial venture. The high value of land in the region made the construction of a large-scale solar power facility a more economically viable use for the site compared to operating a small private airfield.

The site has been completely redeveloped and is now the location of the Shirasagi Mega Solar Plant (白鷺メガソーラー発電所). This is a large-scale photovoltaic power station. The long, rectangular layout of the solar panel arrays clearly follows the footprint of the former runway.

Onishi Private Airfield was a small, privately-owned airstrip that served the local general aviation and recreational flying community in Gunma Prefecture. Its operations were focused on light aircraft, ultralights, and sport aviation. It did not handle commercial or military traffic and its significance was primarily as a local hub for aviation enthusiasts rather than a key piece of national transportation infrastructure.
