Itazuma Airfield (JP-2243) in Gotemba, Japan, is a closed airport. It is associated with JGSDF Camp Itazuma, a Japan Ground Self-Defense Force military base established in 1909 by the Imperial Japanese Army as a training facility. After World War II, it was controlled by the United States Army until 1960, when it was returned to Japanese control and reestablished as a training facility for the JGSDF. While the airfield itself is defunct, the military base remains active.

The airfield ceased operations at the end of World War II in August 1945. The site was officially repurposed and the airfield infrastructure was fully removed upon the establishment of JGSDF Camp Itazuma in 1962.
Military conversion. Following the surrender of Japan in WWII, the Imperial Japanese Army was dissolved. The airfield was occupied by US forces before being returned to Japan. The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) then developed the site into a ground forces garrison, removing the runway and aviation facilities in favor of barracks, training areas, and administrative buildings.
The site is currently the location of the active Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) base, Camp Itazuma (陸上自衛隊 板妻駐屯地). It is the home of the 34th Infantry Regiment, part of the 1st Division. The former airfield has been completely redeveloped and no longer has a runway or any aviation-related infrastructure. The area is now used for ground troop training, vehicle depots, barracks, and parade grounds.
Itazuma Airfield was established during World War II by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service. It was one of several airfields located in the Fuji-Gotenba area, strategically positioned for the air defense of the Tokyo metropolitan region and for training pilots. The airfield housed various military aircraft and played a role in Japan's homeland defense strategy during the final stages of the Pacific War. The ICAO code 'JP-2243' is an unofficial identifier used in historical airport databases and does not represent an official designation.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening Itazuma Airfield. The site is a fully operational and important JGSDF infantry base, and its current military function as a ground forces camp precludes any possibility of it being converted back into an airfield.
