Economic reasons and land redevelopment. The airfield was closed to allow for the construction of a large-scale solar power plant on the site. The land was repurposed for renewable energy generation, a more profitable use for the property.
The site of the former Yoshioka Airfield has been completely redeveloped. It is now occupied by the Kakegawa Oike Solar Power Plant (掛川大池ソーラー発電所), a large mega-solar farm. The solar panels cover the entirety of the former runway and taxiway areas, although the faint outline of the runway is still visible in some satellite imagery.
Yoshioka Airfield was a private general aviation facility. It did not handle commercial or significant military operations. Its primary role was to serve the local recreational flying community in the Shizuoka Prefecture. The airfield was a base for private pilots, flying clubs, and enthusiasts of ultralight aircraft, motor gliders, and other light sport aircraft. It provided essential infrastructure for flight training and recreational aviation in the region before its closure.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Yoshioka Airfield. The permanent installation of the large-scale solar power plant on the site makes a return to aviation use highly improbable. The land has been fully committed to long-term energy production.
