The gliderfield was closed as part of a land redevelopment project. The site was repurposed by the city of Kisarazu to create a public recreational area, which became Nakanoshima Park. The subsequent construction of the large Nakanoshima Ohashi Bridge, which began in 1975, further solidified the area's conversion from aviation use to public and tourist infrastructure.
The site of the former gliderfield is now entirely occupied by Nakanoshima Park (中の島公園). It is a well-known public park and tourist spot in Kisarazu, famous for the Nakanoshima Ohashi Bridge (中の島大橋), Japan's tallest pedestrian bridge. The bridge is a designated 'Lover's Sanctuary' and was a prominent filming location for the popular Japanese TV drama and film series 'Kisarazu Cat's Eye'. There are no remaining traces of the runway or any aviation facilities.
Toriizaki Gliderfield was a small but important airfield for post-war civil aviation in Japan. It was located on a narrow peninsula in Kisarazu Port and was managed by the Japan Student Aviation Federation (日本学生航空連盟). Its primary function was to serve as a training and recreational facility for university student aviation clubs, who used the field for glider operations, likely employing winch-launching techniques. It was a key site for fostering interest and skills in aviation among young people during that era.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening the Toriizaki Gliderfield. The land has been fully and permanently redeveloped into a major public park and landmark for over 50 years, making its return to aviation use virtually impossible.
