Approximately 2001-2002. The helipad was designated as 'temporary' and was decommissioned following the completion of the Nagashima Dam construction project, which it was built to support.
Project Completion / Economic Reasons. The helipad's sole purpose was to serve as a logistical hub for the construction of the Nagashima Dam. Once the dam was completed and became operational in 2002, the helipad was no longer required and was officially closed, having fulfilled its temporary mission.
The site of the former helipad has been fully repurposed. It is now a large, paved area that functions as a parking lot for visitors to the Nagashima Dam and its adjacent facilities, including the Nagashima Dam Visitor Center (ι·ε³Άγγ γ΅γγγ逨) and a nearby recreational park. The site is open to the public.
The Nagashima Temporary Helipad was a critical piece of infrastructure for the massive, multi-decade construction of the Nagashima Dam (1972-2001). Located in a remote, mountainous region, the helipad was essential for:
- Transporting engineers, government officials, and specialized personnel.
- Airlifting sensitive or heavy equipment and construction materials.
- Conducting aerial surveys and monitoring the progress of the dam's construction.
- Providing a base for emergency medical evacuation (medevac) helicopters for workers at the site.
Its existence was directly tied to this major national civil engineering project.
There are no known plans or prospects to reopen the site as an official, permanent helipad. Its original purpose was temporary, and the infrastructure has since been converted for public recreational use. While the large, open, and flat space could potentially serve as an ad-hoc emergency landing zone for disaster relief or medical helicopters, it is not maintained or registered as an active aviation facility.
