Approximately March 2007
The airfield was closed for economic reasons. Its operator, Japan Flying Service Co., Ltd. (株式会社ジャパン・フライング・サービス), filed for bankruptcy on March 29, 2007, leading to the immediate cessation of all operations at the facility.
The site of the former airfield has been completely redeveloped. All aviation infrastructure, including the runway, taxiways, and hangars, has been removed. The land is now occupied by a large-scale solar power generation facility (a 'mega solar' farm), which covers the entirety of the former airfield grounds.
Established in 1988, Tatebayashi Airfield was a privately owned and operated facility that served as a vital hub for general aviation in Japan's Kanto region. It featured a single 800-meter unpaved (grass) runway. The airfield was primarily used for recreational flying and flight training, handling a variety of operations including light aircraft, ultralights, motor gliders, and skydiving. For many private pilots and aviation enthusiasts, it offered a less congested and more accessible alternative to the larger, more regulated airports in the area.
None. Due to the complete redevelopment of the site into a permanent solar energy farm, there are no prospects or plans for the airfield to reopen. The land has been permanently repurposed for industrial energy generation.
