Approximately late 1990s to early 2000s. The exact public record of closure is unavailable, but operations are believed to have ceased around 1998-2000.
The airfield was privately owned by a religious organization named Manna Sōgō Kyōkai (マナ総合協会). The closure is attributed to the decline and eventual cessation of the organization's activities, which made the airfield economically unviable to maintain and operate. There were also reports of local opposition and noise complaints from nearby residents, which may have contributed to the decision to close.
The site has been completely redeveloped. The former runway and airport grounds are now occupied by a large-scale solar power plant, the Looop Nagara Solar Power Plant (長柄太陽光発電所). The distinct outline of the runway is still visible on satellite imagery, but it is now covered with thousands of solar panels.
Manna Airfield, also known as Nagara Airfield (長柄飛行場), was a private general aviation airfield established circa 1988. It was unique for being owned and operated by a religious group for their private transport and activities. The facility consisted of a single paved runway, approximately 500-600 meters long, and was used by light aircraft and ultralights. It was not a public airport and had no scheduled commercial or military operations. Its significance is primarily as a local aviation curiosity from a relatively recent period.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening Manna Airfield. The land has been permanently repurposed for renewable energy generation, and the extensive infrastructure of the solar farm makes any future conversion back to an airfield extremely unlikely.
