Approximately August-September 1945
Military Decommissioning. The airstrip was an auxiliary field for the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service and was abandoned following the surrender of Japan at the end of World War II. It was never converted to a civilian airport.
The site has been completely redeveloped. After the war, the land was returned to civilian use, primarily for agriculture. Today, the entire footprint of the former airstrip is occupied by the Nishio Isshiki Mega Solar Power Plant (西尾一色メガソーラー発電所), a large-scale solar energy farm. The distinct rectangular shape of the solar farm clearly outlines the location of the former runway and airfield.
Isshiki Auxiliary Airstrip was constructed late in World War II (circa 1944-1945) as a dispersal field for the Imperial Japanese Navy's Okazaki Naval Air Group. In the final stages of the war, the Japanese military built numerous small, often unpaved, auxiliary airfields to scatter their aircraft, making them less vulnerable to a concentrated Allied attack on a main airbase. Isshiki's primary role was to serve as a hideout and emergency landing strip for aircraft from the main Okazaki base. It was not intended for major operations but was a crucial part of the defensive strategy for the Japanese home islands.
None. The site has been permanently and completely repurposed as a major solar power generation facility. There are no plans, discussions, or any feasibility for it to be converted back into an airport.
