The primary reason for the closure was contractual. The lease agreement for the land on which the airfield operated was not renewed by the property owner, who decided to reclaim the area for agricultural use. This was not due to an accident, economic failure of the flying club itself, or military conversion, but a direct result of the landowner's decision.
The site of the former airfield has been fully converted back to agricultural land. All aviation infrastructure, including the runway, taxiways, and any buildings like hangars, have been removed. Satellite imagery of the coordinates confirms the area is now composed of cultivated fields, with no visible remnants of its past as an airfield.
Cerrina Airfield was a significant general aviation (GA) hub for the Turin (Torino) area, primarily serving ultralight aircraft (known as ULM in Italy). It was home to the well-regarded 'Scuola di Volo La Cerrina' (La Cerrina Flight School), which offered training and licensing for ULM pilots. The airfield featured a grass runway approximately 600 meters long and was known in the local aviation community as a friendly and active center for recreational flying, training, and social gatherings for pilots and enthusiasts.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Cerrina Airfield at its original location. Given that over a decade has passed since its closure and the land has been completely and permanently repurposed for agriculture, a revival of aviation activities on this specific site is considered highly improbable.
