Approximately between 2012 and 2014. The airfield was reported as closed in Italian aviation forums by 2013. This timeframe aligns with the development of a large solar farm on the adjacent property, which was approved by the Province of Ferrara around 2010.
The closure is primarily attributed to economic factors and changes in land use. While not officially stated, the construction of a large-scale photovoltaic (solar) farm immediately to the west of the runway made continued aviation operations difficult and likely less profitable for the landowner compared to leasing the land for renewable energy production. This is a common fate for small, privately-owned airfields in Italy.
The airport is permanently closed and abandoned. Current satellite imagery shows the grass runway is completely overgrown and unusable, though its outline is still visible. The buildings that once served as hangars and a clubhouse appear to be derelict. The land immediately west of the former runway is now occupied by a large, operational solar farm.
Campo di Volo Corbetta was a private airfield dedicated to recreational and sport aviation. In Italy, a 'Campo di Volo' typically serves ultralight (ULM) aircraft. It was the base for a local flying club, providing facilities for private pilots and aviation enthusiasts in the Codigoro and Ferrara region. Operations consisted of flight training and recreational flights from its single, unpaved grass runway (oriented approximately 17/35). Its significance was purely local, supporting the general aviation community.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the Campo di Volo Corbetta. The land is privately owned, the infrastructure has fallen into disrepair, and the proximity of the large solar farm presents a significant obstacle and potential hazard (e.g., glare, turbulence) for any future aviation activity. The prospect of reopening is considered nonexistent.
