Approximately 2010-2011. The airfield was noted as closed in aviation communities around this period, and its entry was removed from Italian flight guides (Avioportolano) after the 2011/2012 edition. The land was officially repurposed for new development starting around 2012.
The closure was not due to a single major event like an accident or military conversion. It resulted from a combination of economic and land-use factors, which is common for small, privately-operated airfields. The primary reasons included the end of the operator's land lease, potential disagreements with the landowner, and the increasing value of the land for commercial development. The expansion of nearby residential areas may have also contributed to pressures (e.g., noise complaints) that made continued aviation operations untenable.
The site of the former airfield has been completely and permanently redeveloped. Shortly after its closure, the land was converted into a large ground-mounted solar farm (parco fotovoltaico). The entire length of the former runway is now covered by rows of photovoltaic panels. The original aviation infrastructure, including the runway and most support facilities, has been removed to make way for this industrial renewable energy plant.
Aviosuperficie Coraine was a key general aviation airfield for the Verona and Lake Garda region. Its operations were focused on recreational flying, particularly for ultralight aircraft (ULM - Ultraleggero a Motore) and small private planes. It featured a single grass runway (designated 18/36) approximately 650 meters long. The airfield was home to a well-regarded flight school, 'Scuola di Volo Ali di Classe,' which provided training for ultralight licenses. Its strategic location near Lake Garda and the Monte Baldo mountain range made it a popular base for scenic flights and a social hub for the local pilot community.
There are zero prospects for the airfield to reopen. The conversion of the land into a large, operational solar farm is a permanent change in land use. Re-establishing an airfield would require the complete removal of the multi-million-euro solar installation and navigating a complex and unlikely re-zoning and permitting process. The land is no longer available for aviation activities.
