Circa 2013-2014. While an exact official date is not readily available, analysis of historical satellite imagery shows a clear, operational grass runway in 2012. By 2015, the site was under construction for its new purpose, with the runway completely gone by 2016.
Economic reasons. The land was sold and redeveloped for a more profitable commercial use. The entire area of the former airfield was repurposed for the construction of a large ground-mounted solar farm, a common fate for privately-owned rural airstrips with valuable land.
The site is now a large photovoltaic power plant (solar farm). The runway, windsock, and any small hangars or support buildings have been completely removed. The entire length and width of the former airfield are now covered with rows of solar panels, and the site is connected to the electrical grid. It is no longer recognizable as an aviation facility from the ground or air.
Aviosuperficie Cà Lunga was a small, private airfield primarily used for general aviation, with a focus on ultralight aircraft (ULM - Ultraleggero a Motore). It was not a commercial airport and had no scheduled passenger or cargo services. Its significance was purely recreational, serving as a destination for private pilots. It featured a single unpaved/grass runway (approximately 02/20) of about 550 meters in length. Located in the scenic hills of the Alta Langa region, it was known for being a beautiful but potentially challenging field to operate from due to the surrounding terrain. The identifier IT-0348 was a national designator used in unofficial databases, not a formal ICAO code.
Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airfield. The complete and permanent conversion of the land into a solar farm represents a significant capital investment. Reverting the site to aviation use would be financially and logistically prohibitive, as it would require the complete dismantling of the power plant and the reconstruction of all airfield infrastructure.
