The airfield ceased operations permanently between 2017 and 2019. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the grass runway was still visible and intact in 2017. By 2019, the land had been cleared for new construction, and by 2020, a large industrial building was being erected on the former runway's location.
The closure was due to economic and land development reasons. The land occupied by the airfield was sold and redeveloped to build a major logistics and distribution hub. The strategic value of the land for industrial purposes, given its location in an economically active region, outweighed its use as a small recreational airfield.
The site of the former airfield has been completely transformed. It is now occupied by a large, modern logistics center for the Italian transport and logistics company, Italtrans. The massive warehouse and associated infrastructure were constructed directly over the old runway and airfield grounds. All traces of its previous aviation use have been permanently erased.
Campo di Volo Palosco was a small, private airfield dedicated to recreational and ultralight aviation (known as ULM or VDS - Volo da Diporto o Sportivo in Italy). It featured a single grass runway, approximately 500 meters long, and served local pilots and flying enthusiasts from the Bergamo province. It was not a commercial airport and handled no scheduled passenger, cargo, or military operations. Its significance was purely local, providing a crucial facility for the general aviation community in the area.
There are zero prospects for reopening the Campo di Volo Palosco at its original location. The land has been irreversibly redeveloped for large-scale industrial use. The construction of the Italtrans logistics hub represents a permanent change in land use, making any return to aviation activities impossible.
