Approximately 2009-2010. While flight operations were reported as late as 2008, aviation forums and official records indicate the airfield was sold and its closure was finalized by early 2011.
Economic and commercial redevelopment. The airfield was a privately owned entity. The land was sold to a new owner who chose to convert the facility into a more profitable motorsports venue rather than continue aviation operations. There is no evidence of closure due to accidents, military conversion, or regulatory action.
The site has been completely repurposed and is now a motorsports facility. The former runway is the 'Pista Prove Lonato' (Lonato Test Track), a straight-line track used for vehicle testing (cars and motorcycles), safe driving courses, and corporate automotive events. The runway surface has been modified with painted chicanes and braking zones. The facility operates adjacent to the world-famous 'South Garda Karting' track, making the entire area a major center for motorsports.
The airfield, also known as 'Aviosuperficie del Garda', was a significant general aviation hub for the popular tourist region of southern Lake Garda. It featured a paved runway approximately 850 meters (2,790 ft) in length, which was suitable for a wide range of light aircraft, from ultralights (ULM) to single and twin-engine general aviation planes. It primarily handled recreational flying, private pilot training, and provided air access for visitors to the area. It was a valuable asset for the local aviation community.
Zero. The prospect of reopening as an airfield is virtually non-existent. The infrastructure has been permanently converted for use as a vehicle test track, and the current commercial operation is well-established and successful. Reverting the site to an airfield would require significant new investment and the closure of the current business, which is highly unlikely.
