The airfield officially and definitively closed on December 31, 2010.
The primary reason for the closure was the non-renewal of the land lease agreement. The contract for the land, which was privately owned, expired and was not extended, leading to the operating club having to cease all activities. The land was subsequently reverted to its original agricultural purpose. The closure was not the result of a major accident, military conversion, or direct financial failure, but rather a land-use and contractual issue.
The site has been completely decommissioned and fully returned to agricultural use. All aviation infrastructure, including the grass runway, taxiways, hangars, and clubhouse, has been demolished and removed. Satellite imagery of the coordinates confirms that the area is now entirely cultivated farmland, with no visible remnants of the former airfield.
Montegaldella Airfield was a prominent general aviation (GA) and ultralight (ULM) airfield in the Veneto region, serving as a key hub for the local aviation community in the Province of Vicenza. It was home to the 'Volo Club Vicenza A.S.D.' and a well-regarded flight school. The airfield featured an 800-meter grass runway (01/19) and handled a variety of light aircraft, from ultralights to single-engine planes like the Cessna 172. It was a center for recreational flying, flight training, and social events for pilots and enthusiasts for many years.
There are no known plans or credible prospects for reopening the Montegaldella Airfield. The complete removal of all infrastructure and the full conversion of the land back to agriculture make any potential reopening extremely unlikely and financially prohibitive. It would require re-acquiring the land, obtaining new and complex permits, and rebuilding the entire facility from scratch.
