Approximately 2015-2016. Satellite imagery shows the airfield was still intact but showing signs of disuse in 2016, and by 2017-2018, construction of a solar farm was underway on the site. The airfield was active in the early 2010s but ceased operations in the mid-2010s to make way for the new development.
Economic and land redevelopment. The land occupied by the airfield was sold and repurposed for the construction of a large-scale commercial solar power plant. This type of land conversion is common for privately-owned airfields when the value of the land for industrial or energy development surpasses its profitability as a small aviation hub.
The site has been completely transformed and is now occupied by the Cigliano Solar Park (Parco Fotovoltaico di Cigliano), a large ground-mounted photovoltaic power station. All aviation infrastructure, including the runway, taxiways, and hangars, has been removed and replaced with thousands of solar panels. The transformation from airfield to solar farm is total.
Fly Igor Airfield was a private 'aviosuperficie' (a classification in Italy for small airfields not classified as airports) that served the general aviation community, particularly for ultralight aircraft (ULM - Ultraleggero a Motore). It was a well-known and active hub for recreational pilots in the Piedmont region. The name 'Fly Igor' likely refers to the owner or operator of the field. It featured a grass runway (approximately 600 meters long) and several hangars. The name 'FLY IGOR' was famously painted on the roof of one of the main hangars, making it easily identifiable from the air.
None. The prospect of reopening the airfield is zero. The land has been permanently and fundamentally redeveloped for industrial energy production. Decommissioning a major solar park to rebuild a small private airfield is not financially or logistically feasible.
