Approximately between 2012 and 2014. No exact official date is publicly available, but aviation database updates ceased around 2012, and satellite imagery from subsequent years shows the beginning of the site's conversion.
Economic reasons and land repurposing. The airfield was a small, private facility. The owner or landowner opted to convert the land to a more profitable and consistent use, which was the construction of a solar energy farm. This is a common fate for small general aviation airfields located on valuable flat land.
The site has been completely transformed and is no longer recognizable as an airfield. The entire area of the former runway and its surroundings is now occupied by a large, ground-mounted photovoltaic power station (solar farm). The original grass runway has been entirely removed to make way for the solar panels and their supporting infrastructure. Some of the original buildings, such as the hangar, may still exist on the edge of the property but are no longer used for aviation purposes.
Cascina Grecia was a private 'Aviosuperficie' (a classification in Italy for airfields not meeting full airport standards, often for ultralight and general aviation). It was not a commercial or military airport. Its significance was purely local, serving as a base for recreational pilots and owners of ultralight (ULM) and light general aviation aircraft in the Canavese area. It featured a single grass runway (approximately 650 meters long, designated 17/35) and basic hangar facilities. It was a hub for the local flying enthusiast community.
Zero. The prospect of reopening the site as an airfield is nonexistent. The permanent installation of the extensive solar farm infrastructure makes any return to aviation activities physically and economically unfeasible. The land has been permanently repurposed for industrial energy production.
