The exact closure date is not officially documented. However, based on historical satellite imagery, the airport was likely functionally abandoned by the early 2000s. Significant urban development began encroaching on the site around 2010, with the runway becoming completely obstructed and built over by approximately 2015.
The primary reasons for closure were economic non-viability and urban encroachment. As a small airfield with basic facilities, it was superseded by the larger and better-equipped Bushehr Airport (OIBB/BUZ), located about 65 km to the southwest. The land, being close to the city, became more valuable for urban expansion, leading to its eventual redevelopment.
The airport no longer exists. The site has been completely redeveloped and is now part of the urban fabric of Borazjan. The former runway and airport grounds are now occupied by the Payam-e Noor University of Borazjan (دانشگاه پیام نور برازجان), residential neighborhoods, commercial buildings, and public roads, including the Shahid Mostafa Khomeini Boulevard which cuts directly across the former runway's path.
Borazjan Airport was a minor, regional airstrip with a single unpaved runway approximately 1,300-1,400 meters long. It was never a major commercial airport and did not have a standard IATA code. Its operations were limited to general aviation, light transport, and possibly government or agricultural flights using small propeller-driven aircraft. It served as a basic air connection for Borazjan, the administrative center of Dashtestan County, before the region's road network improved and air services were consolidated at the provincial capital's airport in Bushehr.
There are zero prospects for reopening the original airport, as the site has been fully and permanently redeveloped. While local officials have occasionally raised the idea of constructing a new airport for Dashtestan County, there are no concrete, funded plans to do so. Air travel for the region is handled exclusively by Bushehr Airport.
