Approximately late 2010s. The airport was rendered obsolete and fell into disuse with the construction and opening of the new Parsian Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ) Airport, which began major development around 2017-2018.
Replacement and economic obsolescence. A new, modern airport was constructed approximately 25 km to the east-southeast to serve the Parsian Special Economic Energy Zone. The old airstrip (IR-0033) was a basic facility with a dirt/gravel runway that was inadequate for the region's growing industrial and logistical needs.
The site is abandoned and derelict. Satellite imagery shows a clearly defined but unmaintained dirt or gravel runway, oriented roughly ENE-WSW. There are no significant buildings, hangars, or aviation infrastructure remaining on the site. The runway is degraded, unmarked, and unusable for any formal aviation purposes, with some evidence of occasional use by local ground vehicles.
IR-0033 was a small, rudimentary airstrip. It primarily served local needs, including general aviation, logistical support for regional industries (likely related to oil and gas exploration), and potentially light government or private transport. It was not a commercial passenger airport and could only handle small, propeller-driven aircraft capable of operating from unprepared surfaces. Its significance was purely functional for the immediate local area before the development of larger, modern infrastructure.
None. With the fully operational and modern Parsian Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ) Airport located nearby, there are no known plans, economic incentives, or logical reasons to reopen or redevelop this obsolete and primitive airstrip.
