Kotido Airport (HUKO) is a small civilian airport located in Kotido, Uganda. It is managed by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) and primarily supports general aviation, humanitarian flights, and limited regional connectivity.
- The airport is situated approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) south of Kotido town at coordinates 2°57′10″N 34°07′23″E, with an elevation of about 4,020 to 4,070 feet (1,225 to 1,241 meters) above mean sea level.
- It features a single unpaved grass runway. Sources indicate the runway length is around 1,750 meters (5,741 feet) with an 01/19 orientation, or 1,600 meters (5,249 feet) with a 05/23 orientation and a width of 25 meters (82 feet). Operations are conducted under visual flight rules (VFR) only, as there are no instrument approach procedures available.
- Historically, Kotido Airport originated as a rudimentary airstrip to facilitate supply deliveries and government operations in the remote Karamoja region. It was closed in 1999 due to safety concerns but reopened after upgrades in the early 2000s to support humanitarian aid. As of 2024, it lacks scheduled commercial services. In 2015, the UCAA's master plan targeted it for development into a regional airport, and local authorities initiated a "facelifting project" in 2024.
