It is situated approximately 15-17 kilometers (9-11 miles) south of Kampala along the Entebbe Road and about 29 kilometers (18 miles) northeast of Entebbe International Airport.
The airfield features a single unpaved murram (laterite gravel) runway, designated 14/32, with a length of approximately 1,106 to 1,150 meters (3,630 to 3,773 feet) and a width of 25 meters (82 feet). It is not lighted for night operations and operates under visual flight rules (VFR) at an elevation of 1,141 meters (3,743 feet) above sea level.
Kajjansi Airfield serves as a vital hub for general aviation in Uganda, primarily supporting humanitarian missions, domestic charter flights to remote areas and national parks, medical evacuations, and pilot training programs. It is the operational base for organizations like Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), which has largely operated the airfield since its establishment in the late 1980s, and hosts flight schools such as BAR Aviation Academy (formerly Kajjansi Flying School) and Flight Training Centre (FTC) Uganda.
