Terpes Airport

Primarily economic reasons and systemic changes in agriculture. The airport was almost certainly a state-operated agricultural airstrip (known in Hungary as 'Mezőgazdasági Repülőtér' or MZR). These airfields supported large, state-run farming cooperatives. With the dissolution of this system after 1989 and the privatization of land, the centralized, large-scale crop-dusting operations became economically unviable, leading to the closure of most of these small, specialized fields.

The site has been fully returned to agricultural use. Analysis of satellite imagery at the given coordinates (47.974924, 20.146968) shows open farmland. There are no visible remnants of a runway, hangars, or any other aviation infrastructure. The land is now an active farm field, indistinguishable from the surrounding landscape.

The airport's significance was entirely local and agricultural. It served as a base for agricultural aviation, supporting the farming communities in the Pétervására area of Heves county. Operations would have consisted of light utility aircraft, such as the Antonov An-2 and Zlín Z-37 Čmelák, used for crop dusting, seeding, and pest control. It was part of a vast, nationwide network of MZR airfields that were essential to Hungary's agricultural output during the socialist era. It had no known military or commercial passenger role.

There are no known or plausible prospects for reopening the airport. The land is privately owned and actively cultivated. The original economic and agricultural purpose for the airfield no longer exists, and there is no modern demand for an aviation facility at this specific rural location.
