Approximately 2014-2015. While an exact official date is not publicly recorded, aviation community forums and historical satellite imagery confirm that the airfield ceased operations and was plowed over during this period.
Economic reasons related to a change in land ownership. The private property on which the airfield was located was sold. The new owner had no interest in maintaining an active airfield and subsequently converted the land for agricultural purposes, which was likely more profitable.
The site is no longer an airfield. The land has been fully reclaimed for agricultural use. Satellite imagery of the coordinates clearly shows plowed fields where the runway and taxiways once existed. All aviation-related infrastructure, such as hangars or markers, has been removed.
Alsónémedi was a key private, recreational airfield for the general aviation community near Budapest. It featured an unpaved grass runway approximately 800 meters long. The airfield was primarily used by ultralight (UL) aircraft, motor-gliders, and other small general aviation planes. It served as a base for recreational flying, pilot training, and was a popular gathering spot for local aviation enthusiasts. While it held no major commercial or military significance, it was an important local hub for private aviation.
There are no known plans or credible prospects for reopening the Alsónémedi Recreational Airfield. The land is privately owned and actively farmed, making the cost and legal process of re-establishing an airfield prohibitive and highly unlikely.
