Approximately mid-2000s (circa 2005-2007). While an exact date is not officially recorded, the airfield ceased operations during this period and was officially removed from aviation publications. The site was definitively repurposed starting around 2018.
Primarily economic reasons and land repurposing. The private company operating the airfield faced financial difficulties due to a lack of sustained demand for general aviation and sport flying in the area. Ultimately, the land was sold for a more profitable industrial use, leading to its permanent closure.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped. It is now occupied by a large solar power plant, part of the Mátrai Erőmű (Mátra Power Plant) renewable energy portfolio. The runway, taxiways, and any remaining aviation infrastructure have been entirely removed to accommodate the solar panel arrays.
The concept for an airfield at this location dates back to the 1960s, originally intended for agricultural aviation (crop dusting) for a local cooperative, but it was never fully realized in that era. In the 1990s, after the fall of communism, it was established as a private general aviation airport by the company Aero-Pannonia Kft. It featured a 1000 x 50 meter grass runway and was assigned the ICAO identifier HU-0037. During its active years, it served as a local hub for sport aviation, recreational flying, pilot training, and gliding.
Zero. The construction of a permanent, large-scale solar park directly on the footprint of the former runway makes any prospect of reopening the site as an airport physically and economically impossible. The land has been permanently repurposed.
