Taxis are the most common and convenient option, available 24/7 outside the arrivals terminal. Fares are not metered, so it is crucial to negotiate and agree on a price with the driver before starting your trip. A typical ride to Stone Town takes about 15-20 minutes. Many hotels also offer pre-booked airport transfer services for a fixed rate.
Several local and international car rental agencies have desks at the airport. It is highly recommended to book a vehicle in advance, especially during peak season. To rent a car, you will need a valid driver's license from your home country, an International Driving Permit (IDP), and a temporary Zanzibar driving permit, which the rental company can arrange for a fee.
The local public transport, known as 'Dala-dalas' (shared minibuses), offers a very low-cost way to travel. However, they do not pick up directly from the terminal exit. You must walk a short distance to the main road to catch one. This option is best for adventurous, budget-conscious travelers with minimal luggage, as the vehicles are often crowded and do not run on a fixed schedule.
Waiting for plane from Presision Air to Dar s Salam we heard informal that a plane to the airport was crashed. We heard Nothing from airport people, no annoncements of delays or cancellings. Bad information. Many passengers were waiting and missed connections. Poor communications of the airport !!!
