Type of Facility and Operations: It is an Egyptian Air Force airbase, classified as a midsized airport. The airbase is home to the No. 57 Squadron and No. 58 Squadron, which operate as part of the 308 Close Air Support Tactical Wing of the 139 Air Division. These squadrons fly Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet MS1/2 aircraft. The airbase does not provide commercial airline services and does not publish METAR weather data.
Notable Features or History: The airbase was built in 1985 and has been in use since then. It is equipped with two asphalt runways: 14/32 measuring 2,900 meters (9,514 ft) and 17/35 measuring 2,750 meters (9,022 ft). The elevation of the airbase is 13 feet (4 meters) above mean sea level. Historically, the area around Mansoura Air Base was the site of the significant "Air battle of Mansoura" on October 14, 1973, during the Yom Kippur War. Egyptian MiG-21 aircraft successfully defended the airbase against Israeli air raids in an intense engagement.
