Circa mid-1980s
The airfield was closed due to major infrastructure development. The land was expropriated for the construction of the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass and the large, multi-lane Sheriffhall Roundabout, which was built directly on top of the former airstrip's location.
The site of the former airfield is completely obliterated and is now occupied by the Sheriffhall Roundabout, a critical and heavily trafficked road interchange connecting the A720, A7, and A6106 south of Edinburgh. The surrounding area is also heavily developed with a Park and Ride facility, a Dobbies Garden Centre, and other commercial properties. There are no physical remnants of the airstrip.
Drum Farm (Sheriff Hall) was a small, private grass airstrip. It was not a commercial or military airport and held no major historical significance in the broader context of UK aviation. Its operations were limited to general aviation, serving private light aircraft, and potentially agricultural flying. The ICAO code 'GB-1064' is an unofficial designator, often used in flight simulator databases and unofficial airfield lists to identify locations that do not have an official ICAO code, which is typical for small, private fields of this nature.
There are zero prospects for reopening. The land has been permanently and irreversibly redeveloped into essential public road infrastructure, making any future aviation use impossible.
