Approximately 2004
Lease Termination. The airfield operated on leased private land. The landowner chose not to renew the lease with the Angus Gliding Club, the primary operator, in order to return the land to full agricultural use. The closure was an economic decision by the landowner and not related to military conversion, safety issues, or a specific accident.
The site has been fully returned to agricultural use. All aviation infrastructure, including any hangars and the grass runways, has been removed. Current satellite imagery shows the area as cultivated farmland with no visible remnants of its past as an airfield.
Drumshade Glider Field was a private grass airstrip that served as the home of the Angus Gliding Club from 1982 until its closure in 2004. For over two decades, it was a key site for recreational gliding in the Tayside region of Scotland. Operations primarily consisted of glider training and leisure flights, typically using winch-launching methods. The club had previously operated from Tealing before moving to the purpose-established site at Drumshade Farm.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airfield. The land is privately owned and actively farmed. The former operator, the Angus Gliding Club, successfully relocated to a new, permanent base at RM Condor, Arbroath, where they continue to operate.
