Taw Mill Airstrip

The airstrip was a private facility, and its closure is attributed to the cessation of flying activities by the owner. For small, private strips like this, closure is commonly due to the owner selling the property, retiring from flying, or passing away. The land was subsequently fully reverted to agricultural use, which was its primary purpose.

The site of the former airstrip has been fully returned to agricultural use. Current satellite imagery of the coordinates (50.776381, -3.904455) shows open fields with no visible trace of a runway, hangar, or any other aviation infrastructure. The land is now indistinguishable from the surrounding farmland. The associated property, Taw Mill, remains as a private residence/farm.

Taw Mill Airstrip was a small, private grass runway primarily used for recreational general aviation. It had no major historical, commercial, or military significance. Its operation was tied to the owner of the adjacent Taw Mill property. The airstrip operated on a 'Prior Permission Required' (PPR) basis, meaning visiting pilots had to obtain permission from the owner before landing. It served as a base for light aircraft for personal and recreational flights within the UK's general aviation community.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Taw Mill Airstrip. As the land is privately owned and has been fully converted back to agriculture, re-establishing an airstrip would require significant investment, effort, and new planning permissions from a future landowner with an interest in aviation. This is considered highly unlikely.
