🇿🇼 Chipinge Airport

Chipinge Airport (FVCH/CHJ) is a small public airport located in Chipinge, Manicaland Province, southeastern Zimbabwe, near the border with Mozambique. It primarily supports general aviation operations, including private charters and executive flights for local agricultural estates and essential government services.

The airport is situated at an elevation of approximately 3,720 feet (1,134 meters) above mean sea level, with coordinates around 20°12′24″S 32°37′42″E. It features a single grass runway, designated 13/31 (or 12/30), which measures approximately 1,095 meters (3,593 feet) in length. Operations at Chipinge Airport are strictly under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) during daylight hours, and the facility has limited terminal infrastructure, consisting of basic administrative offices and a sheltered area.

Historically, Chipinge Airport was established around 1976 as Forward Air Field 6 (FAF) by the Rhodesian Air Force during the Rhodesian Bush War. It had scheduled commercial flights in the 1970s, but currently offers no scheduled commercial airline service. The airport plays a role in supporting the region's agriculture (tea, coffee, macadamia nuts), tourism, conservation efforts, and research expeditions.
