Moussoulens Air Base

Land-use conversion for renewable energy production. The site was acquired for the development and construction of the 'Centrale Solaire de Moussoulens', a large ground-mounted photovoltaic power plant. The closure was purely for economic and industrial redevelopment reasons.

The site is now fully occupied by the Moussoulens Solar Farm ('Centrale Solaire de Moussoulens'). The entire area of the former runway and airfield has been covered with thousands of solar panels and associated electrical infrastructure. The land has been permanently repurposed for electricity generation.

The designation 'Moussoulens Air Base' and ICAO code 'FR-1272' are informal and likely originated from user-contributed databases. The site was never a military air base. It was a private ultralight (ULM - Ultra Léger Motorisé) airfield, known in French as a 'plateforme ULM'. Established around 1999, it consisted of a single unpaved/grass runway used for recreational flying by its private owner and potentially a small local club. Its significance was limited to the local private and ultralight aviation community and it did not handle commercial or significant military operations.
