Champ de Courses Airfield

The closure was not due to a single major event. It was a small, private ultralight (ULM) platform whose operations were likely discontinued due to a combination of factors, including: low operational volume, potential land use conflicts with the primary function of the site as a horse racecourse, and liability concerns for the landowner. The proximity of the larger, fully-equipped Épinal–Mirecourt Airport (LFSG) made this small grass strip redundant for regional aviation needs.

The site is now fully integrated into the Hippodrome de Vittel (Vittel Racecourse). The coordinates point to the grass infield of the horse racing track. This area is maintained as part of the racecourse and is used for equestrian events and general groundskeeping. There are no remaining signs of a runway, hangars, or any aviation infrastructure. The land is not used for any aviation activity.

Champ de Courses Airfield was a minor, private airfield with local significance. Its name, meaning 'Racecourse', accurately describes its location within the infield of the Hippodrome de Vittel. It functioned primarily as a designated landing strip for ultralight aircraft (ULM) and possibly some light general aviation. Its purpose was almost exclusively recreational, serving local pilots and potentially visitors to the famous spa town of Vittel and its resorts. The airfield never handled commercial, scheduled, or significant military traffic.

There are no known plans, discussions, or prospects for reopening the Champ de Courses Airfield. The land is fully utilized by the Vittel Racecourse. Furthermore, the aviation needs of Vittel and the surrounding region are adequately served by the nearby Épinal–Mirecourt Airport (ICAO: LFSG), located approximately 15 km to the northwest, which offers paved runways and full services.
