The airfield was officially closed by a decree from the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) on July 24, 2014.
The primary reason for the closure was economic and logistical. The private owner of the land on which the airfield was located decided to sell the property. This led to the dissolution of the operating agreement with the local flying club, forcing the cessation of all aviation activities.
The site has been completely returned to private, non-aviation use. Satellite imagery confirms that the hangars have been dismantled and removed. The former grass runway is no longer maintained and is now indistinguishable from the surrounding agricultural fields, likely used for pasture or farming. There are no remaining signs of an active airfield.
Ligny Airfield, also known as 'Base ULM de la Bâte', was a private airfield dedicated exclusively to ultralight aircraft (ULM - Ultra Léger Motorisé). It was a local hub for recreational aviation in the Sologne region, operated by a local club (Club ULM de Sologne). The airfield featured a single unpaved, grass runway (approximately 450 meters long, oriented 01/19) and a few small hangars. Its significance was not commercial or military, but rather as a community asset for ultralight pilots, providing a base for training, leisure flights, and social gatherings within the local general aviation community.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Ligny Airfield. Given that the land has been sold to a new private owner and all aviation infrastructure has been removed, reopening is considered extremely unlikely. It would require a new land acquisition, significant investment, and a full re-certification process with aviation authorities.
