Approximately between 2010 and 2012. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows a clear runway in the late 2000s, which appears to be plowed over and converted to agricultural use in imagery from 2012 onwards. There is no exact official date of closure publicly available, which is common for small, private airfields.
Economic reasons and land repurposing. The airfield was a small, private ULM (Ultralight) platform. The land was subsequently converted into an orchard or vineyard, a more profitable use of the real estate in this agricultural region. There is no evidence to suggest the closure was due to a specific accident, military conversion, or regulatory action.
The site is now fully converted to agricultural use. The former runway area is planted with rows of trees, consistent with an orchard or vineyard. High-resolution satellite imagery shows no remaining traces of the grass runway. A single building, which may be the original repurposed hangar or a newer agricultural structure, remains at the northwest end of the former airfield.
The airfield, known as 'Base ULM de Clairac', held local significance for the recreational aviation community. It was not a public airport but a private platform for ultralight aircraft (ULM - Ultra Léger Motorisé). Its operations were limited to private, recreational flights for a small number of local pilots and enthusiasts. The infrastructure consisted of a single grass runway (approximately 450 meters long, oriented 11/29) and at least one small hangar. The identifier 'FR-0623' is a French national code for non-certified aerodromes, not an official ICAO airport code.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Clairac Airfield. The land has been fundamentally repurposed for agriculture, and re-establishing an airfield would be economically and logistically prohibitive. The site is considered permanently closed.
