Approximately 2016-2017. The airfield was permanently closed to allow for the construction of a solar farm. The farm, 'Parc solaire de Llauro', was commissioned at the end of 2017 and officially inaugurated in March 2018.
Economic reasons and land redevelopment. The land was repurposed for the construction of a large-scale photovoltaic power station, a project considered more economically profitable than maintaining a small, private airfield.
The site is now fully occupied by the Llauro solar farm ('Parc solaire de Llauro'), developed by the company Arkolia Energies. The former runway and airfield grounds are covered with thousands of solar panels generating renewable energy. The site is no longer accessible or used for any aviation activities.
Torre-Blanc Llauro was a private ultralight (ULM) airfield, not a commercial or military airport. It was known in the French ULM community by the identifier LF6652. Its significance was purely local, serving the recreational flying needs of the general aviation and ultralight community in the Pyrénées-Orientales department. It featured a single, unpaved grass runway, approximately 400 meters long and oriented 09/27, suitable only for small, light aircraft.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airfield. The permanent installation of an industrial-scale solar power plant on the entire site makes its return to aviation use virtually impossible. The land has been irreversibly repurposed.
