May 27, 2014. The airfield was officially suppressed by a government decree ('Arrêté du 27 mai 2014 portant suppression de l'aérodrome de Fabas - Bordeneuve') published in the Journal Officiel de la République Française, the official gazette of the French government.
The airfield was a private ULM (Ultraléger Motorisé / Motorized Ultralight) base. While the official decree does not state a specific reason, the closure of such private facilities is typically initiated at the request of the owner who no longer wishes or is able to maintain and operate it. There is no evidence to suggest the closure was due to an accident, economic failure of a commercial enterprise, or military conversion.
The site has been fully returned to agricultural use. Satellite imagery confirms that the former grass runway is no longer visible and the land has been plowed and integrated into the surrounding farmland. The building that served as a hangar and an adjacent house still exist on the property, but they are no longer used for aviation purposes.
Fabas Bordeneuve was a small, private airfield dedicated to ultralight aviation. Its ICAO code, FR-0407, was a French national designator for airfields not recognized by the international ICAO. Its operations were limited to private recreational flying by its owner and potentially other local ultralight pilots. The facility consisted of a single grass runway, approximately 400 meters long (oriented 08/26), and a hangar for aircraft storage. Its significance was purely local and it never handled commercial or military traffic.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Fabas Bordeneuve as an airfield. Its official legal suppression and the complete conversion of the runway area back to agricultural land make any future reactivation for aviation purposes extremely unlikely.
