The aerodrome was officially and permanently closed by a government decree (arrêté) on December 29, 2006. Flying activities likely ceased in the period leading up to this official date.
The primary reason for the closure was economic and social pressure, driven by persistent noise complaints from residents in the surrounding communities. As the village of Buzet-sur-Tarn and nearby areas grew, local opposition to the noise from general aviation and ultralight aircraft intensified, leading the local municipality to advocate for its shutdown. The proximity to the increasingly busy Toulouse-Blagnac controlled airspace (CTR) may have also been a contributing factor, but resident complaints were the decisive element.
The site is no longer recognizable as an active airfield. The land has been completely repurposed. A large portion of the former aerodrome, including parts of the old runway, is now occupied by a ground-mounted solar farm (photovoltaic power station). The remaining land has reverted to agricultural use, primarily for farming crops. While the faint outline of the runway can still be discerned from satellite imagery, it is bisected by the solar panel arrays and is not usable. The original hangars and buildings still exist but appear to be in private use, likely for agricultural storage or as part of the solar farm's infrastructure.
Created in the 1970s, Buzet sur Tarn was a private general aviation (GA) aerodrome. It was a modest but active facility for the local flying community northeast of Toulouse. Its primary infrastructure consisted of a single unpaved grass runway, oriented 15/33, with dimensions of approximately 780 meters by 50 meters. The aerodrome was home to the 'Aéroclub de Buzet' and primarily handled light aircraft (like Robin DR400) and ultralights (ULM) for recreational flying, pilot training, and local tours. It served as a valuable asset for aviation enthusiasts in the Haute-Garonne region before its closure.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening the aerodrome. The official 2006 closure decree, the strong local opposition that led to the shutdown, and the subsequent major redevelopment of the land with a permanent solar farm make its return to aviation activities virtually impossible. The site is considered permanently closed.
