Estimated to be in the late 2010s. The heliport does not appear in current official aviation publications. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the helipad markings were clear and well-maintained until at least 2017. In images from 2020 onwards, the markings are significantly faded, indicating a cessation of maintenance and official use during that timeframe.
Primarily economic reasons. FR-0071 was a private heliport serving the Hôtel Florotel (which is now the Logis Hôtel Le Tadorne). Such facilities are expensive to maintain, insure, and keep certified. The closure was most likely a business decision driven by a lack of sufficient demand from clients arriving by helicopter, making the amenity no longer financially viable for the hotel's management. There is no evidence to suggest the closure was due to an accident, military conversion, or urban development.
The site is now a large lawn that is part of the grounds of the Logis Hôtel Le Tadorne. The physical helipad is no longer officially in use and the heliport is permanently closed. Faint, weathered markings of the white 'H' inside a circle are still visible on the ground in satellite views, but they are degrading over time. The land is maintained as a simple field and is not used for any aviation purposes.
The heliport's significance was entirely commercial and local. It was established as a luxury amenity to enhance the prestige and accessibility of the Hôtel Florotel. Its primary function was to cater to high-net-worth individuals, VIPs, or business executives who could travel directly to the hotel via private helicopter, bypassing ground transportation. Operations were limited to private, non-scheduled VFR (Visual Flight Rules) flights. The facility was basic, consisting of a single, marked concrete or painted grass helipad in a field adjacent to the hotel, with no hangars, fuel, or air traffic control services.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. Since the current hotel management has allowed the facility's registration to lapse and its physical markings to deteriorate, a reversal of this decision is highly unlikely. Reopening would require significant investment in resurfacing, remarking, and recertification with the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC), which would only be pursued if a strong and sustainable business case for helicopter access re-emerged.
