Replacement and Modernization. The ground-level heliport was decommissioned following the construction of a new, modern rooftop helipad (ICAO: LFJX) on a new building within the hospital complex. This upgrade was part of a major hospital modernization plan. The new rooftop facility provides direct and much faster access for patients to the emergency room and intensive care units via a dedicated elevator, eliminating the previous need for a secondary ambulance transfer from the ground-level landing site to the hospital building. This significantly improves patient care and safety.
The physical site of the old ground-level heliport still exists as a paved, circular pad with a faded 'H' marking, located on the southern part of the hospital campus. However, it is no longer certified or used for aviation operations. The area is now inactive and essentially unused land within the hospital grounds. All helicopter traffic is now directed to the new rooftop helipad (LFJX) located at approximately 48.2804, 4.0708.
The heliport, identified by the unofficial ICAO code FR-0033, served as the primary air medical facility for the Centre Hospitalier de Troyes for many years. Its main operation was handling emergency medical service (SAMU - Service d'Aide Médicale Urgente) and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) helicopter flights. It was a critical piece of infrastructure for the Aube department, enabling the rapid transport of critically ill or injured patients from accident sites or other regional medical facilities to the specialized care available at Troyes Hospital.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening the old FR-0033 heliport. Its function has been permanently and more effectively replaced by the new rooftop facility. The old site is considered obsolete for modern medical operations and does not meet the efficiency standards of the new helipad.
